Hamburg, Pennsylvania  (September 16, 2013) –Cabela’s Hamburg will celebrate National Hunting and Fishing Day on September 28th, 2013 by hosting a youth pheasant hunt for members of the Camp Compass Academy at the Clover Hollow Hunting Preserve in Slatington, PA.Students of the Camp Compass Academy were selected for the hunt based on strict personal and classroom metrics set by Camp Compass founder John Annoni. All of the students were also required to take a course on the history of pheasant hunting, both in the U.S. and other countries, and demonstrate proper gun safety during numerous training sessions at the shooting range.

On May 2, 1972, President Nixon signed the first proclamation of National Hunting and Fishing Day, writing, “I urge all citizens to join with outdoor sportsmen in the wise use of our natural resources and in insuring their proper management for the benefit of future generations.” Since then, countless national, regional, state and local organizations have staged hunting and fishing related events on the fourth Saturday of every September. Over forty years later, this event remains the most effective grassroots efforts ever undertaken to promote the outdoor sports and conservation.

“ Cabela’s is proud to continue its support of Camp Compass by sponsoring this event and giving inner-city youth an opportunity to experience the benefits of hunting and the outdoor lifestyle,” said Harold Luther, Marketing Manager “Cabela’s encourages everyone to introduce someone to the outdoors on September 28th and enjoy the outdoors responsibly .”

“The opportunity to partner with Cabela’s for this special day is important.  By them reaching out to help nontypical outdoor children they are endorsing the sentiment of President Nixon beyond the normal scope.  Kudos to Cabela’s for going above par to make this day special for so many deserving kids. ”, said John Annoni, founder of Camp Compass and the 2 Million Bullets program.
